CLUB DE CURLING BAIE D’URFÉ CURLING CLUB

    The Sunday Morning
    Mixed Doubles League (SMMDL), 2026-2027
The Sunday Morning Mixed Doubles League (SMMDL) offers a very relaxed opportunity to play in
    doubles format.
Indeed, experience has shown that not many members of our club are willing to commit to playing
every Sunday morning. We even tried a commitment of four Sundays in a row, but without success.
So, here is how it will probably work for the 2026-2027 season. (We may have to make changes if
there is a lot of demand…).
    Registration for the SMMD League
Ideally, teams are mixed as to gender, i.e., one man, one lady. Many teams consist of husband and
wife, but other combinations are possible: father-daughter, mother-son, brother-sister, friends of
opposite gender, etc. Non-mixed teams are also permissible, provided they are not too strong.
In order to register, you and your partner email your names to Pierre Lesage (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.), indicating that you would be interested in curling as a team on some Sunday
mornings (i.e., not necessarily every Sunday).
You can also register if you do not have a partner. We will pair you with another single player. You
may not necessarily play with the same partner every Sunday, unless you choose to become a team.
    Scheduling the Sunday Teams
On Thursday of each week, Pierre will send an email to all players who are registered, asking for their
    plans and preferences. For example:
Do you plan to play this coming Sunday?
    ▢ Yes ▢ No
If so, in which draw would you prefer to play?
    ▢ 10:00 a.m.
    ▢ Noon
    ▢ Flexible (10 a.m. or noon)
    ▢ Flexible but 10:00 a.m. preferred
    ▢ Flexible but noon preferred
    ▢ Not flexible
Please help by responding promptly! Thank you.
(No answer necessary if you do not plan to play.)

Late on Friday or early on Saturday, Pierre will email the schedule to all who wrote to say they plan to
    play that Sunday morning.
Since we usually have some stronger teams and some weaker teams, Pierre will try to put together
matches that are as evenly balanced as possible. As a result, you may end up playing certain teams
more often. If you can be flexible about which draw you play in (10:00 a.m. or noon), this will help
make scheduling easier and more interesting.
In the event that a weaker team wishes to challenge a stronger team, please let Pierre know ahead of
    time.
It sometimes happens that we end up with an uneven number of players. In that case, a game will be
played 3 vs. 3 or even 3 vs. 2. The doubles rules about take-outs will still apply (see below).
If your regular partner is not available on any given Sunday, you are welcome to come alone.
However, please let Pierre know this when you inform him of your plans for the next Sunday.
    The Rules
 Our doubles format is adapted from Olympic rules, i.e., teams play 8 ends and games typically
    last 75-80 minutes.
 Each team is given one prepositioned stone, following which each team throws 5 stones per
end. (This will be explained on site, if needed.)
 Player A throws stones 1 and 5; player B throws stones 2-3-4. The choice of player to deliver
the first stone can change from one end to another.
 No take-out is allowed until the 4th stone of any given end has been delivered.
 The player who is not throwing can either stay in the house or get into position to sweep the
    delivered stone.
 Only one power-play per game is allowed. (This will be explained.)
    The Trophy and Medals
Each time you play, you accumulate points that go toward the awarding of trophies and medals at the
end of the season. If you come enough times – even if your team is not the strongest – your points
could possibly earn you a trophy and medals. (This has not happened yet...)
    Points are awarded as follows:
     A win = 3 points
     A tie = 2 points
     A loss = 1 point
WELCOME TO ALL & GOOD CURLING !!!
